17.-20. October 2016 Qingdao, China

paper title:
“Architectural Concepts for Reducing the Utilisation of Air Conditioning in Chinese Residential Buildings”Evaporative cooling is also known as adiabatic cooling. Manfred Hegger describes the process of direct evaporative cooling as follows: When water changes from a fluid to a gaseous phase, it requires heat, which is extracted from the ambient air. Adiabatic cooling is a process in which ambient air is enriched with moisture. A simple example of natural evaporative cooling is perspiration, or sweat, secreted by the body, the evaporation of which cools the body. When we sweat during physical activity, the evaporation of sweat from the skin helps to reduce body temperature. The more vapour that comes in direct contact with air, the better evaporation will work.

Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) 2016

13 – 17 June 2016, ETH Zuerich

paper title:
FILTER FAÇADE

Consuming over 40% of total primary energy, the built environment is in the centre of worldwide strategies and measures towards a more sustainable future. To provide resilient solutions, a simple optimisation of individual technologies will not be sufficient. In contrast, whole-system thinking reveals and exploits connections between parts. Each system interacts with others on different scales (materials, components, buildings, cities) and domains (ecology, economy and social). Whole-system designers optimize the performance of such systems by understanding interconnections and identifying synergies. The more complete the design integration, the better the result.

paper:
The Filter Facade has the goal of reducing air conditioning (air conditioner split units) usage in buildings by cooling the interiors of residential high rises in subtropical climate regions with natural cross ventilation by optimizing the wind-flow using architectural components with specific openings.

International Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts

08 April 2016, Wien

paper title:
THE URBAN DIMENSION OF LITERATURE.
ARE LITERARY SPACES REAL SPACES?

At the conference I present the results of my research concerning the link between literature and urban and architectural spaces. The goal of this research is to point out the relationship of the textually formulated space, its formation time, the time of reception and the relationship of textual world and real world, and therefore the chronotopical relationship and its representation. Literary and literalized spaces and built architectural as well as built urban areas are examined and the question “Are literary spaces
real spaces?” is raised and discussed. Case studies imply individual literalized spaces, autobiographical spatial relationships, positioning of the author/writer and expand to movements in space.

RUEG 2016 – Regional Urbanism

03-05 February 2016, Huddersfield, England

paper title:
Urban mind map in transformation – potential of terraced house estates of the Booming Years

This international conference explores the changing face of regional urbanism, asking if the environmental, economic and social challenges facing many parts of the world will provide new opportunities for regional cities to develop alternative forms of urban living which are fundamentally different from those of the rapidly expanding metropolises. Inspired by recent debates about the over-riding economic, political and cultural dominance of London in the United Kingdom.Through an examination of such issues as environmental sustainability, cultural/civic identity, transportation, health and well-being and social/economic development, the conference will offer a platform for multi-disciplinary debate.
